Dave Chappelle’s new comedy special is now on Netflix.
The hour-long special, titled “The Closer,” was taped last August, and Chappelle reported on the latest controversy. He said in the new special that it will be his last for a while and that it will complete the “work” he’s been doing for Netflix.
Some of his comments on the show have already sparked debate, including his support for trans feminists known as TERFs. TERF stands for “anti-trans radical feminists,” a term used to describe feminists whose gender views are seen as anti-trans.
In the special, Dave Chappelle says TERF sees trans women the way black people see Blackface.
“They canceled JK Rowling, my god. She actually said gender was a fact, and the trans community went crazy, and they started calling her TERF.”
He added: “I’m Team TERF… Gender is a fact.”
Comments spark backlash social mediasome accused him of paranoia.
Chappelle also said he wanted to “negotiate the release” of DaBaby, who has been widely criticized for his homophobic remarks about people living with HIV/AIDS.
Some of his supporters took to social media to support the acclaimed comedian.
Is this all part stand-up comedy, or did Dave’s comment cross the line?
