Latto was teasing a new pop song when she shared a clip of the new track on Tuesday night.
The Atlanta rapper simultaneously posted a 39-second video of the new song to her social media accounts on Tuesday night, announcing “Pop Latto is loading” along with a cherry emoji. In the video, the song is played in the background of a recording studio in what sounds like a chorus.
“Oh, if I let you put your hands on me…if I tell you all my dirty fantasies, you’ll win the lottery, you’ll win the lottery,” the rapper sings on the chorus before the song cuts, listening Looks like she’s about to rap.
The rapper danced with two of her friends, throwing dollar bills into the air. Lato is seen wearing a puffy pink hat and pink and red socks with cherries printed on them. Cherry seemed to be hinting at the song or possibly a new project coming, as the rapper has been using it on her resume and her accounts on social media.
Fans reacted to the clip on Twitter, with some already proclaiming the track’s popularity.
“This is an absolute hit. It’s sure to be #1 on the Billboard charts,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“I can already hear it in malls and ice rinks,” said another. “It’s right before the Grammys,” added another.
Some also called for Latto to work with Dua Lipa. The new track will be the second to straddle rap and pop, following Latto’s previous success with her remix of “Big Energy” with Mariah Carey.
The song is a sample of Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth’s 1981 hit “Genius of Love,” and Mariah Carey’s 1995 hit “Fantasy,” which was also a sample of the original.
Latto achieved great commercial success on radio and streaming with the song, which spent more than 30 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and won several awards.
During the year-end wrap-up, Latto was named the top rookie of all genres in 2022 by the Billboard charts. The 23-year-old rapper was also named a Top New R&B/Hip-Hop Artist due to the success of “Big Energy.”
According to Billboard, the song reached No. 1 in year-end R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales, Rap Digital Song Sales and Rhythmic Airplay Songs Retrospective.
