Jordan Brand is partnering with the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation to auction off 23 pairs of rare Christopher Wallace Air Jordan 13s.
Originally created in 2017 to commemorate The NOTORIOUS BIG’s 45th birthday, the unreleased sneaker was kept under wraps until recently. Reflecting the 50th anniversary of Michael Jordan’s famous jersey number and hip-hop music, 2023 is the cornerstone of the relationship and culminates in the Jordan 2023 campaign.
Because of NOTORIOUS BIG’s influence on hip-hop culture and beyond, 2023 is the right year to send a confident message across the globe. Featuring the shape of Wallace on the tongue and a tagline celebrating the rapper’s dedication, the sneakers will be available exclusively at Sotheby’s.
The insole is designed in classic red and black checked flannel, which has the same appearance as the synonymous label of The NOTORIOUS BIG. Laces with “DREAM” printed on shoulder straps.
“This Air Jordan 13 has been reinterpreted to celebrate the legend of The NOTORIOUS BIG, who chased stars, had the wildest dreams, and backed it up with a work ethic,” explains Reggie Saunders, vice president of marketing for Jordan Entertainment and the Jordan Brand.
“This is just the beginning of our brand’s journey through 2023,” explained Jordan Brand Chief Marketing Officer Shannon Watkins. “We hope to harness the power of our Jordan heritage to inspire and accelerate confidence throughout the year.”
Brahm Wachter, Head of Streetwear and Contemporary Collections at Sotheby’s, added: “We are delighted that Jordan Brand and the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation have commissioned Sotheby’s to auction off these exclusive sneakers to commemorate the legacy of The NOTORIOUS BIG as the Year of Jordan Part of Celebrations in 2023. This auction marks the only opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to acquire these special limited edition sneakers that combine the legacy of the greatest athlete of all time with the greatest rapper of all time together.”
From January 23rd to February 3rd, 23 pairs of the Christopher Wallace Air Jordan 13 will be auctioned off in an exclusive online auction. The shoes have an estimate of $2,300 to $5,200 and are unreserved, meaning the starting bid is $1. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation, which seeks to empower inner-city youth through educational learning tools, sponsorships, grants, and community-based mentoring programs and events, under the motto Think BIG “Books Instead of Guns” “
Wayne Barrow, Co-Chair of the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation added, “We are excited about this remarkable collaboration and look forward to further empowering the youth of our inner city community through the educational tools and opportunities resulting from the auction.”
The shoes will be on display at the Sotheby’s gallery in New York from Monday, January 23rd to Friday, February 3rd. Visit Sothebys.com/JordanxWallace for more details.
